News from the NVM Compound

Basket-Making Class

A couple of weeks ago we had a group of 30 high school students at NVM to run a soccer camp for kids in Chambrun.  They also had an interest in learning how to make baskets just like the ladies in Onaville. So Cheryl agreed to teach them. They all gave it a good try and there were even a few good (but small) baskets. However, they all left the experience with a tremendous respect for the skill and hard work put into the creation of the baskets by the ladies in Onaville. It is much harder than it looks. And they do it all by hand!

A New Community

We will soon have new neighbors! Just two miles from NVM a new community is being built. The Haitian government is funding the project. When completed there will be over 2500 homes with a population of over 30,000. And dig the color selection. Pray that NVM will make a tremendous impact for God's Kingdom in this new community. We will let you know the name of the community once it is selected.

Special Guests

Just this past week Shelly Elliott (on the right) returned to NVM for a visit. Shelly, her husband Aaron and their children were one of the two original families that came to minister at NVM long-term. They were here for one year. And on this trip, Shelly brought a special guest. Ann Stone is the Associate Pastor of GKC (Grace Kids Company) at Grace Community Church in Noblesville, Indiana. The kids ministry at Grace is considering a partnership with NVM to sponsor a nutrition program for children in the area. They will provide Plumpy'Nut which is a peanut butter packed with badly needed nutrients. Their plan is also to provide Creole Bibles for the kids. This is the kind of partnership we are praying that God will provide our ministry. Thanks Ann!

The Woman and the Goat

About three weeks ago NVM received a very special gift. Over the past two years Cheryl and Dianne Pierre have been ministering to women in the area. We have reported before that Cheryl has a program to teach local Haitian women how to create beaded jewelry and rope baskets to help them earn a living. Well, one of the ladies involved in the program has been blessed.  She recently gave Cheryl and Dianne a goat. This was her thank you for the impact the program has made on her life making it possible to provide for her family. And in the community of Chambrun, this is a gift of huge value. However, we are not going to give it a name because it is likely to end up on our dinner table in the near future!!!

That's it for now. We will keep you informed as we see God working!

Serving on your behalf in Haiti,
Jim & Cheryl Warner
