Jim & Cheryl return to Haiti after Thanksgiving visit to Texas

Greetings everyone. We had the opportunity to return to our home in Dallas to visit our family for Thanksgiving.  We had a great time and it was great to see everyone (especially the three grandchildren!!) We have returned to Haiti to continue our ministry here. This is just a quick update. We will post again in a few days with a story and photos.

The GAiN Mission Team Finishes Strong with Works of Service on the NVM Compound

Our week has come to a close for the GAiN mission team on the NVM compound. And it was a good week! They finished with additional works of service. Team members put the ceiling and walls into one of the new dorm buildings, they built church benches and completely cleaned and reorganized Cheryl’s work area and the NVM Hope Gift Shop. We have included photos from the jewelry class held on Wednesday. This was the final class for a group of ladies who were challenged to start their own jewelry businesses. Here are the sights!

We want to thank the wonderful members of this team for coming to Haiti. They were fantastic. And thank you for your interest and prayers. The GAiN team ministry went so well this week and we know it was because of your prayers. The spiritual warfare here is great so it is important to have prayer warriors. Thank you! We said good bye to the team this morning at 6 am. We pray God’s blessing on them as they return home.

On Monday and Tuesday the GAiN mission team conducted vision clinics in Onaville. On Wednesday they turned their attention to work projects on the NVM compound. There are new buildings that need wiring and insulation, benches to be built for the church and workroom organization to be done. They worked hard and got much accomplished. Here are the sights.

NVM Conducts a GAiN Vision Clinic for Adults in Onaville–largest IDP Camp in Haiti

On our second day of ministry, the GAiN team conducted a general vision clinic for adults at the NVM church in Onaville. By 3 pm we had seen 166 people and had distributed 129 pair of glasses. There were many who had very bad eyesight and needed glasses to see. And best of all, 19 of our guests prayed to receive Jesus Christ into their lives for the first time. Here are the sights from the day.

Today we want to highlight one of our team members,

DSC02069DSC02071

Craig is a civil engineer who has been to NVM once before. He helped build the current mission team center. Craig said he was more inclined to do construction work and wasn’t sure about working the Focometer at the clinic. However, after the first day he said it was one of the more rewarding things he had ever done. He faithfully used the Focometer to check vision for two straight days. Craig is representative of the great people on this team. We want to thank them all for their great work conducting two days of vision clinics. Tomorrow our work is focused on doing works of service. More on that later.

Thank you for your prayers. Please keep them going up before the throne.

NVM Conducts a GAiN Vision Clinic for Students in Onaville–largest IDP Camp in Haiti

On their first day of ministry, the GAiN mission team in Haiti conducted an vision clinic for 153 students in Onaville. The clinic was conducted in the NVM church tent. The day was a blessing. And the best part of all is that two of the students gave their lives to Christ for the first time. Here are some general photos from the day.

DSC01969DSC01971DSC01974DSC01993DSC01997DSC01998DSC02008There was a special young student, in the photos below, who came to the clinic today. His name is Louissant. This young man lost both of his parents in the 2010 earthquake and now lives with his brother in a tent. He also is blind in one eye and has very bad eyesight in the other from a box hitting his face in the earthquake. We were able to build him a pair of glasses with a –8.00 lens for eye that has sight. He could see clearly for the first time in a long time. He had been praying for help and God brought him to our clinic today!  Sometimes we can see exactly why we are here!

Please pray for Louissant – this has increased his faith tremendously!
