Weyerhaeuser & Friends Enclose Two Buildings!

As we have reported, the Weyerhaeuser Corporation has funded five housing units on the NVM compound. They also sent a team down for the past two weeks to start the construction process. During their first two week trip they brought two of the buildings to the stage where they are water tight and locked. And they had the help of two groups from Wheatland Church and Gracepoint Church. They waited patiently for the containers to be released through customs and worked through three days of storms caused by Hurricane Sandy. They were impressive teams!

Here is a look at the buildings. The building on the left is one of two medical staff houses near the new hospital. The building on the right is one of three intern staff houses in the mission team compound.

Construction on these two buildings will continue. And we have all the materials on the compound to construct all five buildings!

A special thanks goes out to the Weyerhaeuser Corporation and the team members who came to work. And also, thanks to the two teams from Wheatland and Gracepoint. The photo on the left is the ceremony to pass the keys of the enclosed and locked buildings to Pastor Pierre. The photo on the right is the Weyerhaeuser team.

One can only think about the future ministry that will occur on the NVM compound. So many medical teams and interns will come and go doing God’s work here. These housing units will play a vital role in that process. We are so grateful!

Weyerhaeuser is making good progress

The construction projects are moving along well on the NVM compound. The goal of the Weyerhaeuser team is to complete one of the medial housing units and one of the intern housing units before they leave on Saturday. And if they don’t completely finish, they are teaching a few of the Haitian staff how to complete the job.

The medical housing unit on the left is getting it’s roof today. The intern housing unit on the right is also looking like a real building. We will keep you posted.

The weather has been strange in Haiti the last couple of days. It is rather cool and cloudy with a light rain. We think that it is because Hurricane Sandy is passing by us to the west.

We also have a group of ladies here from Grace Pointe Church in San Antonio, Texas. They are contributing to the construction effort in the mornings and conducting a VBS each day at the church in Onaville in the afternoon. They have about 100 kids attending each day. I will try to get some photos posted tomorrow.

The Weyerhaeuser Group Makes Good Progress

As we previously reported, the Weyerhaeuser Corporation has donated the materials to build 5 small buildings on the NVM compound. And they are now building them.

Three of the buildings are housing units in the Team Center on the NVM compound. They call these buildings “Curly, Larry and Moe.” Younger readers may not get the joke.

Then there are two buildings next to the new hospital. These will be the living quarters for visiting medical teams once the hospital is open, They call these two buildings, “Pink and Floyd.” Again, young readers may not get this one either!

The two photos above were taken last week. The photos below were taken last Friday. It shows the great progress they have made.

This is “Pink.” We will show you “Pink” and “Curly” tomorrow.

Watch this very short video of a wall going up on “Pink.” I call it “The Raising of the Wall!”

We will keep you updated on their progress.

Weyerhaeuser Housing Project Underway

The Weyerhaeuser corporation has donated the building materials to construct 4 housing units on the NVM compound. And this week they have a large crew of volunteers to start building. Well, today the 3 containers of building materials arrived and the work has begun. We will keep you posted this week with progress updates and photos (and maybe a video) as the building go up. On the bottom row of photos you see Brandon Hutchins. He and his wife Katie are long-term volunteers and he directs all team activities at NVM!

Kids in Haiti are back in school!

For some reason, the Haiti government decided to start school late this year. The kids started again on October 1. It was great to see the 350 kids again who attend school at NVM. The place just isn’t the same without them!

Check out this short video of the sights and sounds of “Kids in the Classroom.”

Thanks for your continued prayers and support. We appreciate you all very much.

Pastor Training Continues in Haiti

Every month NVM invites pastors to the compound for a half-day conference. This has proven to be of great interest and help to many pastors. They receive a hot breakfast, have a time of worship and Jim teaches a practical lesson from God’s Word.

But 2 or 3 times each year Pastor Jim Butler and his team come down from EastPointe Baptist Church to teach a more in-depth theology conference. They arrived yesterday and began the conference today. The topic is week is the doctrine of man.

This is a great opportunity for these pastors to dig deeper into God’s Word and to better prepare them for ministry in their local churches. Pray for the team and the pastors this week. The conference goes through Saturday at noon.
